Innovation
2000, The Millennium Frontier

With the support of Innovation and Technology Fund, the Industry department
is organizing the "Innovation 2000 : The Millennium Frontier"
which aims at deepening public understanding of the importance of innovation
and technology as the new engines of our economic growth for the next
century. This event is the second of its kind while the first one was
the Technology Week 97 held in January 1997.
Three main display areas entitled "Quality Home", "Global
Connection" and "Technology Frontier" are designed to feature
Hong Kong's technological achievements. Behind these main display areas
are three focal areas called "Technology Valley", "Digital
Land", and "Industry Square". Deliverables of government
funded projects undertaken by universities and industry-support organizations
will be displayed in the Technology Valley. A delegation from the Chinese
Academy of Sciences will also participate in the exhibition. There will
also be about 200 exhibitors from the private sector.
  
Our staff is presenting to the invitees. Most of the ISP and ICP are our
invitees, they are interested in the OPERA Technology.
Digital
Library initiative (DLI) (15 March 1999)
The launching ceremony,
officiated by Mr. K. C. Kwong, Secretary for Information Technology and
Broadcasting for the HKSAR, marks a magnificent start for the Digital
Library Initiative pioneered by The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The
Digital Library Initiative is a milestone to enhance the technology level
of Hong Kong in making HKSAR an Internet and Content Hub for the world.
A signing ceremony, signified close partnership and collaboration of the
four participating Universities, has conducted. Representatives from the
three participating Universities - Academia Sinica of Taiwan, Carnegie
Mellon University and South China University of Technology signed the
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Digital Library Initative with
The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Renowned academicians and speakers
are also invited to share with us their vision on CyberLibrary, next generation
Internet and applications.
